NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) said on Monday it expected to slow down its oil and natural gas production recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Gustav due to a new threat from Hurricane Ike.

"Storm assessment and production restoration activities associated with Hurricane Gustav continue but will begin to be phased down as Hurricane Ike approaches the Gulf of Mexico," the company said in a press release.
