Dollar gains vs yen after US PPI,retail sales data

NEW YORK, July 14 (Reuters) - The dollar rose against the yen on Tuesday as U.S. data on retail sales and producer prices beat expectations, boosting hopes that the economy is on a slow path to recovery.

The dollar rose to 93.30 yen JPY= from around 93.15 yen and was about 0.3 percent above its closing level on Monday.

The euro also briefly rose to around $1.40 but pared gains to trade flat on the day at $1.3977 EUR=. (Editing by W Simon)
