NEW YORK, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) said on Sunday its 239,000 barrel per day oil refinery in Joliet, Illinois, shut major units for maintenance on September 8, including the fluid catalytic cracker and the crude unit.

"The work is on all the major units," a spokesman said. "It will last another couple of weeks."

Traders had said earlier this month that Exxon Mobil was shutting the refinery for work.
