Chile copper export revenue $3.370 bln in August

SANTIAGO, Sept 15 (Reuters) - The value of Chile's copper exports amounted to $3.370 billion in August, up 30 percent from the same month last year, central bank figures showed on Monday.

In August 2007, Chile's copper exports were worth $2.591 billion. Last month's figure brought the year-to-date total to $28.270 billion, up 10.3 percent over the same period last year.

Exports of molybdenum, a metal that often occurs together with copper and is used to strengthen steel, were worth $332.5 million in August, nearly even with the same month last year of $333.3 million.

Molybdenum exports in the first eight months of the year totaled $2.492 billion, down 3.5 percent from the same period in 2007. (Reporting by Antonio de la Jara; Writing by Pav Jordan; Editing by John Picinich)
