NEW YORK, Dec 16 (Reuters) - More than 210,000 homes and businesses in New England and New York remained without power four days after a snow and ice storm left nearly 1.4 million customers in the dark, power companies said Tuesday.

Temperatures were forecast to drop during the next few days, with highs expected to reach only the 20s and 30s F across the storm-damaged parts of Upstate New York and northern New England.

Northeast Utilities' (NU.N) Public Service Co of New Hampshire said it would take several more days to restore service to all 96,000 customers still out. That was down from the 322,000 customers initially affected.

Northeast Utilities, of Berlin, Connecticut, supplies power to about 1.8 million customers in New England.

National Grid Plc (NG.L) said it still hoped to restore power to the remaining 89,000 customers in Massachusetts and New York by the middle of the week.

At the peak of the storm, National Grid said it had more than 547,000 customers out. National Grid, headquartered in London, supplies power to about 3.1 million customers in New York and New England.

In Maine, Iberdrola SA's (IBE.MC) Central Maine Power Co said it still had about 26,000 customers in the dark early Tuesday, down from the 220,000 initially affected. Iberdrola, of Bilbao, Spain, supplies power to about 1.6 million customers in New York and New England. (Reporting by Scott DiSavino; Editing by John Picinich)
