NEW YORK, April 18 (Reuters) - Timken Co (TKR.N: Quote, Profile, Research), a maker of industrial bearings and specialty steel, said on Friday it has opened two new plants in Asia, part of its strategy to target faster-growing international markets and the aerospace industry.

A plant in Chennai, India, will make bearings for industrial customers, and becomes Timken's third plant in India.

A plant in Chengdu, China, will focus in part on serving that country's aviation sector.

The company will soon start building a new joint-venture facility to make bearings for China's wind energy market, Timken said.

Timken shares were up 38 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $32.50 in morning trade on the New York Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Nick Zieminski, editing by Mark Porter)
