Iceland c.bank gov resting on doc's order -staff

STOCKHOLM, Oct 10 (Reuters) - One of the three governors of the Icelandic central bank is resting on doctor's orders and is expected back at work in a few days, a staff member at the central bank told Reuters on Friday.

Central bank Governor Ingimundur Fridriksson had been told by a doctor that he needed rest, the staff member said, adding: "But he will be back in a few days."

The staff member said Fridriksson had not had a stroke. There had been rumours in the market he might have suffered a stroke.

On Thursday, a spokesman for Iceland's president confirmed that he had had a heart procedure earlier in the week. This followed reports that he had had heart problems, although the spokesman for President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson said the procedure, which was successful, had been planned for some time.

The president is not head of the government and has limited powers.
