SEOUL, Nov 2 (Reuters) - South Korea's foreign exchange authorities were on Monday spotted buying dollars to check the won's strength, traders said.

The authorities appeared to prevent the won KRW= from strengthening past 1,180 per dollar, they said.

The won was quoted at 1,181.6/3.6 per dollar as of 0600 GMT, compared with Friday's domestic close KRW=KFTC of 1,182.5.

The local currency weakened to as soft as 1,195.0. (Reporting by Cheon Jong-woo and Lee Soo-jung; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
