GM Daewoo union to launch partial strike on wages

SEOUL, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Unionised workers at GM Daewoo Automotive and Technology Co, the South Korean unit of General Motors Corp (GM.N), said on Thursday they had decided to launch partial strikes over a wage deal.

Union members on the day and night shifts will both halt work for four hours on Thursday, and for six hours on Friday and next Monday, the union said on its web site.

They will also refuse overtime work during the partial strikes.

GM Daewoo's union has staged 12 partial strikes resulting in about 15,000 vehicles in lost output since July 8, a company official said.

But unionised workers at South Korea's automakers usually make up lost production incurred during strikes through overtime work and extra shifts. (Reporting by Cheon Jong-woo; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
