TORONTO, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Volatility on the Toronto Stock Exchange shows Canada is not an island, even though its regulatory system is sound and it has been in a relatively strong position, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Thursday.

"A quick look at the recent roller-coaster on the TSX is proof that we are not immune to what is happening elsewhere," Harper told a news conference.

He called for concerted action both in Canada and with other nations. "At home and abroad we need this to be a co-ordinated, constructive response," he said. (Reporting by John McCrank, writing by Randall Palmer; editing by Rob Wilson)
