Liberals ensure Canadian government's survival

OTTAWA, Nov 19 (Reuters) - The main opposition Liberal Party said on Wednesday it would not defeat the newly re-elected minority Conservative government.

The two smaller parties, the Bloc Quebecois and the New Democrats, said they would vote against the government's opening policy speech but Liberal leader Stephane Dion said it would be irresponsible to force another election now.

The Conservatives, led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, won a strengthened minority mandate on Oct. 14 and require the support of at least one party to stay in power. (Reporting by Louise Egan and David Ljunggren, writing by Randall Palmer)
