UTStarcom posts wider 3rd-qtr loss

LOS ANGELES, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Telecom equipment company UTStarcom Inc. (UTSI.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) reported a wider quarterly loss on Friday, saying it had not yet seen the benefits of a restructuring.

Third-quarter net loss was $55 million, or 46 cents per share. This compares with a loss of $43 million and 36 cents a year earlier.

Sales rose to $646.5 million from $600.9 million, and the company said it expected fourth-quarter revenues to be flat or slightly higher than the third.

Gross margins would be up 2 to 4 percentage points higher in the fourth quarter, compared with the third, it said. (Reporting by Dana Ford; Editing by Gary Hill)
