WASHINGTON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - GameStop Corp (GME.N) Chairman Richard Fontaine will relinquish his role as chief executive to focus on international operations, acquisitions and strategic developments, the video game retailer said on Friday.

Daniel DeMatteo, who has been chief operating officer of the company since 1996, will take the job of chief executive, and Paul Raines, former executive vice president of U.S. stores for Home Depot Inc (HD.N), will become GameStop's COO, on Sept. 7.

Fontaine, 66, has been GameStop's chairman and CEO since the company's inception in 1996. He becomes executive chairman after these management changes. (Reporting by Tiffany Wu; Editing by Steve Orlofsky)
