Israeli force in Gaza is "excessive" -UN's Ban

UNITED NATIONS, March 1 (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the Security Council on Saturday he condemned what he described as Israel's "excessive and disproportionate" use of force in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at an emergency session of the council on the escalation of violence in Gaza, Ban also condemned Palestinian rocket attacks against southern Israel. (Reporting by Louis Charbonneau; Editing by Peter Cooney)
