LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def and De La Soul will headline the Rock the Bells traveling hip-hop festival, which kicks off in Chicago on July 19.
The 10-city amphitheater trek will visit Toronto (July 20), Philadelphia (August 3) and Vancouver (August 30) for the first time. The bill also includes Rakim, Method Man & Redman, Raekwon & Ghostface, and reunited “special guest” Pharcyde.
“Our thought is that we always want to put together a well-rounded bill that represents a lot of different facets of live hop-hop,” Rock the Bells founder and organizer Chang Weisberg told Billboard.com.
Following festival dates in North America, a number of acts will travel overseas for Rock the Bells concerts in Europe and Japan, beginning September 20 at the 02 Arena in London.
Last year’s Rock the Bells featured performances by reunited rock band Rage Against The Machine, the Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill and Talib Kweli. Twelve shows tracked by Billboard grossed $14.5 million and drew more than 203,000 concertgoers.
