Jagger to included rarities on solo compilation

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rolling Stones vocalist Mick Jagger will include three previously unreleased tunes on an upcoming album compiling 17 tracks from his various solo endeavors.

"The Very Best of Mick Jagger" will be issued by Rhino Records, the archival arm of Warner Music Group, on October 2 in the United States, and a day earlier internationally.

The three rarities are the John Lennon-produced "Too Many Cooks (Spoil the Soup)," which Jagger recorded in 1973 in Los Angeles; "Charmed Life," an outtake from the sessions for his 1993 solo album "Wandering Spirit"; and a cover of bluesman Sonny Boy Williamson's "Checking Up On My Baby," which Jagger recorded during the "Wandering Spirit" period with Los Angeles blues band the Red Devils. Jagger's sessions with the Red Devils have been widely bootlegged.

Ten tunes are drawn from his four solo albums, "She's the Boss" (1985), "Primitive Cool" (1987), "Wandering Spirit" and "Goddess in the Doorway" (2001). Also included are two songs recorded for movies, 1970's "Memo From Turner" (from "Performance"), and 2004's Golden Globe-winning "Old Habits Die Hard" (from the remake of "Alfie").

Rounding out the set are two Motown covers, his 1978 collaboration with Peter Tosh on the Temptations' "(You Got to Walk And) Don't Look Back" and his 1985 duet with David Bowie on Martha and the Vandellas' "Dancing in the Street," a tune recorded for Live Aid.

Notably absent are Jagger's performance of the title track for the 1986 movie "Ruthless People" and his collaboration with the Jackson 5 on 1984's "State of Shock."

The Rolling Stones are currently in Norway, as part of a European tour that wraps on August 26 in London.
