Beck's "Odelay" expanded for reissue

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Beck's second major-label album, the Grammy-winning 1996 release "Odelay," will be reissued on January 29 with a bonus disc crammed with b-sides and remixes.

Disc one of the Universal Music set sports the original "Odelay," as well as the previously unreleased outtakes "Gold Chains" and "Inferno." Also featured is "Deadweight," from the soundtrack to "A Life Less Ordinary," a 1997 movie starring Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz.

The second disc boasts 16 import-only B-sides and remixes, including "Burro" ("Jackass" sung in Spanish with a mariachi band), a cover of Skip James' "Devil Got My Woman" recorded at Memphis' Sun Studios, and UNKLE's remix of "Where It's At."

"Odelay" has sold 2.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It received a Grammy nomination for album of the year, but lost to Celine Dion's "Falling Into You." It did win for best alternative music performance, and "Where It's At" was honored for male rock vocal performance.

Beck released a single, "Timebomb," in August. It is up for a Grammy next February in the solo rock vocal category.
