LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - British rock band the Cure will tour North America for the first time since 2004, kicking off its monthlong trek on September 13 in Tampa, Fla., its label said Friday.

The tour will promote the group's as-yet-untitled new album, which will be released in the fall through Universal Music's Geffen Records label, a year later than initially envisaged.

The disc, the 13th of the Cure's three-decade career, marks the follow-up to a self-titled effort that debuted at No. 7 on the U.S. album charts in 2004.

The Cure's lineup includes founder/frontman Robert Smith bassist Simon Gallup, and drummer Jason Cooper, along with guitarist Porl Thompson, who played in two earlier incarnations of the band and rejoined in 2005.

The North American tour wraps October 17 in Dallas. Before playing Stateside, the Cure will kick off an Asia-Pacific leg at the Fuji Rock festival in Japan on July 30. It will also play Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
