LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Britney Spears will tour Australia for the first time in her career, the U.S. pop singer said in a statement posted on her Web site on Tuesday.

Spears has scheduled six shows in November in four Australian cities -- Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane -- with her latest tour, "The Circus Starring Britney Spears."

"I've wanted to tour Australia for quite some time and now it's finally happening," Spears said at her website, britneyspears.com.

Since her debut as a teen pop phenomenon with the single "... Baby One More Time," Spears has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide.

In recent years she has made more headlines for her erratic behavior, including losing the custody of her two children. But she has staged a comeback with her last two albums, and the single "Womanizer" was her first No. 1 in almost a decade.
