National Oilwell profit rises on strong demand for rig systems

July 29 (Reuters) - National Oilwell Varco Inc, the largest U.S. oilfield equipment provider, reported a 17 percent rise in quarterly profit, helped by higher demand for its rig systems.

Net income attributable to the company rose to $619 million, or $1.44 per share in the second quarter ended June 30, from $531 million, or $1.24 per share, a year earlier.
