Trains collide in Corsica, 24 people injured

AJACCIO, France (Reuters) - Two trains collided on the French island of Corsica on Wednesday, injuring 24 people, a local government official said.

The trains hit each other on a stretch of single track that links the island's two main towns -- Ajaccio and Bastia. Some passengers suffered cuts and broken bones but the injuries were not life threatening, the official said.

Earlier on Wednesday the SNCF state railways reported widespread sabotage to signaling installations on its mainland network but there was no indication of any criminal damage to the rail network on Corsica.
