INSTANT VIEW: Reaction to Zimbabwe framework deal

(Reuters) - Below is reaction to the deal on Monday between Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai on a framework for formal talks on forming a power sharing government.

"This represents a small step in terms of the overall picture of moving towards negotiations. We would still see that there are wide differences between the positions of the (opposition) MDC and (ruling) ZANU-PF that will have to be overcome if there is to be any negotiated solution to the crisis. Some of the differences are so entrenched it is difficult to see how they could be resolved quickly."

"There is a lot to be resolved over the next weeks and possibly months in terms of setting up the framework these talks are aimed at.

"The MDC has managed to acquire some sort of concession which it found difficult to obtain in the past. It is good news for the MDC.

"There are still things being done that could jeopardize the talks --- for instance the level of violence, if that continues or expands."
