MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Friday its talks with the United States on missile shield plans would be more effective if Washington agreed to freeze the deployment of its missile defense in eastern Europe.

"We believe that to make the joint work of Russian and U.S. experts most effective, plans on deploying the third positioning region (of the missile defense) should be frozen," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a joint news conference with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"On this aspect, we still have no agreement."
