UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Friday the Myanmar authorities' use of force on peaceful protesters was abhorrent and unacceptable.

Addressing the Security Council just before a report by his special envoy to Myanmar, Ibrahim Gambari, Ban called for "bold actions" by the military government there toward democratization and respect for human rights.

"The use of force against peaceful demonstrators is abhorrent and unacceptable," he said.
