Commissioner embraces steroid report suggestions

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said on Thursday he embraces all of former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell's commendations regarding performance-enhancing drugs.

He added that discipline of baseball players named in the report will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Baseball stars from Barry Bonds to Roger Clemens were named earlier in Mitchell's report on steroid use. The report spreads the blame for the proliferation of steroids and other performing-enhancing drugs among the players, their union, club officials and baseball commissioners.

The recommendations include year-round, unannounced drug testing to be administered by an independent authority.
