NEW YORK (Reuters) - A snow and ice storm ravaging the U.S. Mid-Atlantic states early Wednesday knocked out power for more than 100,000 customers from Virginia to New Jersey, local electric companies reported.

In Virginia, more than 35,000 of Dominion Resources Inc.'s Dominion Virginia customers were without power, most in the Shenandoah Valley. Dominion Virginia serves more than 2.3 million customers in Virginia and North Carolina.

In Maryland and Delaware, Pepco Holdings Inc.'s Pepco subsidiary was working to restore about 22,000 customers, mostly in the suburbs south of Washington, while the company's Delmarva subsidiary was dealing with more than 34,000 outages in Delaware and northeastern Maryland.

A spokesman for the Pepco subsidiary said the company expected to restore most service later Wednesday.

In New Jersey, Pepco Holdings' Atlantic City Electric subsidiary reported more than 12,000 outages, mostly in the southwest part of the state along the Delaware River.

Pepco Holdings subsidiaries supply power to more than 1.7 million customers in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and Washington.

Officials at Constellation Energy Group Inc.'s Baltimore Gas and Electric subsidiary were not immediately available to report on outages.
