FACTBOX - Security developments in Iraq, Sept 23

(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 2:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

* BAGHDAD - Ten bodies were discovered in different areas of Baghdad in the past 24 hours, the Interior Ministry said.

* BAIJI - A pipeline carrying crude oil from Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, to the Doura refinery in the capital was ruptured in a bomb attack, police said.

* BAGHDAD - Higher Education Minister Abd Dhiab Ajaili survived an assassination attempt as he returned to Baghdad from Tikrit, police said. Ajaili was unhurt but two of his bodyguards were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near his convoy and insurgents then opened fire.

BAGHDAD - The U.S army killed 10 militants and detained 22 other suspects during operations targeting al Qaeda in the central part of the country, the U.S military said in a statement.

HAWIJA - Police found the body of a policeman in Hawija, 70 km (40 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, police said. The body had bullet wounds.

KIRKUK - A bomb exploded near a police patrol and wounded two people, including a policeman, in the northern city of Kirkuk, police said.

MOSUL - Iraqi Security Forces prevented an attempted bus hijacking by insurgents who targeted two buses filled with passengers in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, on Saturday. Security forces killed one gunman and wounded another, the U.S military said in a statement.  Continued...
