Myanmar PM Soe Win dies after illness
BANGKOK (Reuters) - Myanmar Prime Minister Soe Win, who was believed to be suffering from leukaemia, died on Friday in a military hospital in Yangon, state media announced.
Soe Win had been treated for several months in a top Singapore hospital, but returned to the former Burma on October 1 after the failure of a bone marrow transplant, a Yangon-based source said.
His death will have little impact on the ruling military junta as he had already been replaced as de facto prime minister by one of the regime's top operators, Lieutenant-General Thein Sein.
