BOSTON Feb 10 The chief executive of The New York Times Co (NYT.N) would not comment on Thursday on whether its Boston Globe newspaper is up for sale again.
"We don't comment on rumor and speculation," The Times' Janet Robinson said at a Boston Chamber of Commerce event. "We don't comment on acquisitions or divestitures."
New York Times Co bought the Globe in 1993 and put the newspaper up for sale in 2009. A sale never went through, and the Times took it off the market as the newspaper's financial condition gradually improved.
Talk of a sale was reignited in January when a Massachusetts businessman, Aaron Kushner, expressed interest in making a bid with the backing of members of the Taylor family, which published the paper for generations.
Robinson termed the Boston Globe "a wonderful part of our portfolio."
"I couldn't be more proud of the Boston Globe and how they've put themselves on a sound financial footing," she said. (Reporting by Ros Krasny, editing by Dave Zimmerman)
