MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Security at the Australian Open was again under scrutiny Friday when a male streaker interrupted a doubles match involving the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena.

Security staff captured the man and banned him from attending the rest of the tournament after he ran on to an outside court while the sisters were playing Ayumi Morita and Martina Mueller.

Tennis Australia officials said the man was on court for just 14 seconds but the security guards' main job was to protect the players.

"The focus of the on-court security team is always on player protection," Tennis Australia said in a statement.

"They are instructed not to chase offenders as their focus at all times must remain on the players. The on-court actions of the security personnel reflected this focus on player protection."

The incident happened shortly after dozens of Serbian and Bosnian fans were kicked out of Melbourne Park for fighting.
