Hyundai Motor to recall 65,000 Elantras in U.S.

SEOUL (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor Co, South Korea's top automaker, plans to recall some 65,000 units of the Elantra in the United States to fix a defect in the compact car's fuel pump, a company official said on Thursday.

The recall covers 2008 model year Elantras with 2.0-liter engines that were produced between November 5, 2007 and June 28, 2008, the official said by telephone, asking not to be identified.

The Elantra is produced in South Korea.

Shares in Hyundai dropped 2.74 percent to 70,900 won as of 0058 GMT, underperforming a 0.39 percent fall in the wider market.
