Ecuador says EU banana tariff cuts acceptable
QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuador said on Monday that a historic deal to cut to tariffs on imports of Latin American banana's to the European Union was "acceptable" and would end the long dispute.
Latin American fruit exporters and the European Union said on Sunday they had settled their long-standing dispute over EU imports of bananas.
"The agreement is acceptable for the country," Deputy Trade Minister Eduardo Egas told Reuters.
Former European colonies in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries still need to be brought on board before the row can be defused completely. It has been a major obstacle to an overall agreement on a new trade pact.
