FACTBOX: Key facts about EU-U.S. economic relations

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and European Union will pledge at a summit on Monday to harmonize their regulatory systems and boost cooperation in a range of areas -- from intellectual property to investment, financial markets and innovation.

Below are some key facts about the U.S. and EU economies and trade relationship, based on the latest figures available from Eurostat:

* Between them, the EU-27 and United States generate 60 percent of world gross domestic product.

* Trade between the EU and the United States represents 40 percent of all global trade.

* In 2006, the EU-27 exported 269 billion euros in goods to the United States while importing 178 billion.

* Among the EU member states, Germany was the largest exporter to the United States in 2006 with 76 billion euros in exported goods, or 28 percent of the EU total.

* Machinery and vehicles made up the largest portion of trade in goods between the partners in 2006, with the EU-27 exporting 113 billion euros and importing 79 billion.

* In 2005, the EU-25 exported 123 billion euros in services to the U.S. while importing 116 billion.

* In 2005, EU-25 foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States totaled 29 billion euros while U.S. FDI in the EU amounted to 17 billion.
