WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, a Democratic Party superdelegate, backed Barack Obama on Tuesday for his party's presidential nomination.

Clyburn is a member of the Democratic leadership team in the U.S. House of Representatives and his backing of Obama could influence other superdelegates as Democrats wrap up their primary season.
