House Republican Leader backs new rescue bill: aide
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House Republican leader John Boehner backs a revised financial rescue plan and believes Congress should pass it, his spokesman, Kevin Smith, said on Tuesday.
"He (Boehner) was consulted on it and gave it the green light," Smith said of the measure that the Senate intends to consider on Wednesday.
Drafted a day after the House narrowly rejected a $700 billion proposal, the revised plan includes increasing federal coverage of bank deposits to $250,000 from $100,000.
"He (Boehner) supports it and believes it should pass," Smith said.
