Democrat wins in Colorado Senate race
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Rep. Mark Udall won the U.S. Senate election in Colorado on Tuesday, a major victory for Democrats hoping the Western state would help them solidify their control of Congress, ABC News projected.
Udall, a member of a famous political family who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998, defeated Republican Bob Schaffer, a former House member, in the race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Wayne Allard.
It was a significant victory for Democrats, who are looking to widen their narrow majority in the Senate. Udall's win continues a trend toward Democrats in Colorado, which has voted Republican in nine of the last 10 presidential elections.
