WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Michael Bennet, head of the Denver public school system, will be named to replace U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, the Colorado Democrat who is leaving the Senate to become secretary of the interior in the Obama administration, a congressional source said on Friday.

Bennet, who has served as superintendent of Denver's schools since 2005, will be named by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, also a Democrat, to fill Salazar's seat, said the aide, who asked not to be identified.

In 2010, Bennet or others interested in holding the seat would have to run for a full, six-year term.
