InEnTec Medical Services LLC Cancels Permits to Build a Waste Recycle and
Power Production Facility Near Red Bluff, California
BEND, Ore., June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- InEnTec Medical Services LLC, a
subsidiary of InEnTec LLC, today announced its plans to cancel its project to
construct a Plasma Enhanced Melter ("PEMTM) and power generation facility near
the city of Red Bluff in Tehama County, California. The facility would have
recycled medical waste and other non-hazardous waste materials into clean
electric energy. Citing changing business strategies and market conditions,
the company will focus its efforts on advancing several other regional
opportunities in the United States to bring environmentally friendly and
cost-effective solutions to the problems of waste disposal and the need for
clean fuels and energy.
"We are disappointed that Tehama County will not have the opportunity to
establish itself as a leader in bringing an environmentally sound solution to
the disposal of medical waste," said Jeff Surma, President and Chief Executive
Officer of InEnTec LLC. "When our company started this project over three
years ago, our focus was on developing smaller scale systems geared toward
niche waste streams such as medical waste. Since that time we have evolved our
technology to a scale that now makes economic sense for all waste streams,
including municipal solid waste, or everyday trash. It is our firm belief and
our hope that someday all communities, including Tehama County, will use
technologies such as ours to reuse these waste materials to produce other
products such as ethanol or methanol, which would be more environmentally
responsible than stockpiling our garbage in landfills," Surma said. "We'd like
to thank the Tehama County Planning Commission and the staff of the Tehama
County Air Pollution Control District for their professionalism and courtesy
throughout the process, and we look forward to the possibility of doing
business in Tehama County in the future."
InEnTec Medical Services currently has both a land use permit issued by
the Tehama County Planning Commission and an air permit issued by the Tehama
County Air Pollution Control District. The company has sent a letter to County
officials cancelling both permits.
"We realize that the best way to help meet our country's ever-growing need
for improved environmental solutions and alternative fuels is to focus on
providing communities with the most sophisticated yet safe and clean solutions
available," noted Gary Cook, Chairman of InEnTec. "We are continuing to
identify additional opportunities across the U.S. and in other countries to
provide commercially viable and environmentally friendly solutions to help
solve the problem of waste accumulation and the need for clean renewable
energy."
InEnTec LLC (formerly Integrated Environmental Technologies LLC) was
formed by scientists from MIT, Battelle, and GE. Through its proprietary
gasification system, the Plasma Enhanced Melter(TM), InEnTec can transform
municipal (household), commercial, medical, and most industrial and hazardous
wastes into clean renewable products, such as ethanol, methanol, syngas and
hydrogen, with minimal environmental impact and low costs. InEnTec's systems
meet all environmental standards and come closer to 100% recycling of waste
than any other such commercially available technology.
