TAIPEI, Taiwan--(Business Wire)--
With the 21st Summer Deaflympics about to start in Taiwan on Sept. 5 this year
and a record 85 nations joining the competition, a number of well known local
brands are pitching in to support this growing athletic competition.

The Deaflympics Taipei 2009 Organising Committee and the Bureau of Foreign
Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) collaborate together, showcasing the
Taiwan brands at the Deaf Culture - Taiwan Excellence exhibition. A total of 21
Taiwan brands will open exhibit on the first floor of the Taipei Arena in the
Taipei International Deaf Fair, showing together with more than 100 art
collections by deaf and dumb creators, and the history of Taiwan`s deaf and dumb
associations.

The press is cordially invited to join a media event on Sept. 4 at 2 pm that
will open Deaf Culture - Taiwan Excellence. Mr. Chih-peng Huang, Director
General of the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA, Mr. Yuen-Chuan Chao, President and
CEO of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Mr. Chih Ho
Chen, the honorary president of the 21st Summer Deaflympics Taipei 2009
Organising Committee will host the opening ceremony.

21 Taiwan brands that will display products at the event include bicycle makers
such as Giant, Merida, Pacific Cycles, Pihsiang, KHS and Ming Cycle. Taiwan has
one of the world`s biggest bike industries supplying everything from complete
bikes to helmets, lights and tires.

And that`s not all. Taiwan electronics companies such as Aiptek, dmedia, D-Link,
Genius, Inventec Appliances, MSI, Optoma, Panasonic Taiwan, Penpower Technology,
PQI and Transcend will present some of their latest products during the Sept.
5-15 Deaflympics competition. Other exhibiting companies are SportsArt Fitness,
CSPS Metal for BBQ Grills, HONO Golf and SINGTEX Technical Fabric.

Taiwan`s electronics industry is a champion in its own right. This island with a
population of 23 million people has transformed from an agricultural economy in
just a few decades and now has leading shares of world markets for personal
computers, flat-screen TVs and PC monitors.

These Brands from Taiwan have won the Taiwan Excellence Award, which is the
highest accolade awarded to products that encapsulate innovalue (innovation
combined with value). Formerly known as the Symbol of Excellence (SOE), Taiwan
Excellence was set up in 1992 to encourage Taiwan industries to upgrade and
incorporate innovalue into their product. Taiwan Excellence winners not only
represent the most revolutionary, high quality, high value added products made
by Taiwan. They epitomize Taiwan`s unique genius in using innovation to create
added value in the design and manufacturing of leading-edge products.

The symbol of Taiwan Excellence is a distinctive, proprietary logo and the
unique trademark for Taiwan`s innovalue. It heralds Taiwan`s ascent to
world-class quality in product innovation, design and manufacturing,
representing the highest standards which Taiwan products must meet to maintain
its competitive edge in the global markets.

The Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, retains exclusive
rights to this mark, which has been registered in over 90 countries by the
Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

The Deaflympics provide a unique opportunity for companies to reach the global
deaf community and address their special needs while building a reputation for
excellent corporate and social citizenship.

The need for separate games for deaf athletes is not just evident in the numbers
of participants. Deaf athletes are distinguished in their special communication
needs on the sports field, as well as in the social interaction that is an
equally vital part of the games.

The Deaflympics are built on 80 years of tradition. Organized since 1924 by the
Comité International des Sports des Sourds, CISS (The International Committee of
Sports for the Deaf), the first Summer Deaflympics were held in Paris. Winter
Deaflympics were added in 1949. The Summer and Winter Deaflympics are sanctioned
by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The 20 sports on the 21st Summer Deaflympics program include athletics,
badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, football, handball, orienteering,
shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, beach volleyball, water
polo, wrestling freestyle, wrestling Greco-Roman, karate, judo and taekwondo.

The emblem for the 21st Summer Deaflympics Taipei 2009 incorporates three
elements: the Chinese character for north or bei representing the host city
Taipei, a stylized ear representing the Deaflympics and a figure representing
the athletes. These elements come together to form simple, flowing calligraphic
lines that create a sense of dashing forward, while cleverly evoking the image
of a running man. The emblem symbolizes Taiwan`s undying vitality as well as the
courageous spirit of deaf athletes as they meet the challenges of competition.

Except for opening and closing ceremonies, the public will have free access to
all facilities during the Taipei Deaflympics. For more detailed information on
