Movie Point Stations
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Seagate Technology
(NYSE: STX) and PortoMedia, the leader in the emerging market for high-speed,
secure digital content distribution to the home and to portable devices,
announce today that Seagate's Digital Audio Video Experience (TM)
(D.A.V.E.(TM)) Technology Platform, that provides substantial wireless storage
capacity for digital files, is now compatible with PortoMedia's Movie Point
Stations for quick and easy downloads of standard and high-definition digital
content such as movies, TV programs, music and more.
This collaboration with Seagate and PortoMedia allows for consumers to
download up to 12 high-definition movies or 50 standard definition movies onto
the Seagate D.A.V.E. Technology Platform for easy transfer to various playback
devices such as cell phones, PCs, laptops, set-top boxes, PMPs, and much more.
A fully secure standard definition DVD quality movie can be downloaded from

via satellite/DSL with the latest movie and TV content. The consumer has the
option of renting or purchasing content. The content is protected by Windows
DRM, offering both security and compatibility with a wide range of playback
devices.
"Seagate and PortoMedia have taken a huge step forward in making digital
content distribution easy and accessible for consumers," said Patrick King,
senior vice president and general manager of Seagate's Consumer Electronics
Business Unit. "Seagate's D.A.V.E technology enables wireless storage for many
different applications, and digital content distribution is just one of them."
"PortoMedia intends to open its Digital Fill-up stations to retailers,
Telco's, mobile operators and service providers and Seagate's D.A.V.E.
platform enables PortoMedia to interface with a large range of WiFi or
Bluetooth enabled mobile handsets, Set-Top Box, PCs and Gaming devices. The
D.A.V.E. device heralds a revolution in the personal wireless mobile server
market accelerating Digital Fill-Up which will become a feature of the digital
landscape starting in 2008," said Chris Armstrong chairman & CEO of
PortoMedia.
On-The-Go Unified Content Management
The increasing demand for mobile content requires innovative and
easy-to-use solutions to allow you to take it all with you. There are one
billion digital still and digital phone cameras in the world; in 2006 they
accounted for 250 billion created images. According to Frost & Sullivan, the
number of mobile video download subscribers will jump to nearly five million
in 2010 as compared to roughly 250,000 mobile video download subscribers in
2006. Consumers want to manage this commercial and user-generated content, but
how is this done? Using Bluetooth(1) or WiFi(2) and built for portability
anywhere up to 30 feet (9.1 meters) from a mobile device, the Seagate D.A.V.E.
mobile platform with 60GB of storage capacity provides consumers with a
centralized hub to bring their primary digital content with them -- all
without sacrificing the look and feel of their mobile phone.
