Second quarter revenues soar as demand grows for GRIDSCALE as cost-effective
solution for availability and scalability
WALTHAM, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
xkoto (www.xkoto.com), the database virtualization company, today reported
record revenues for the second quarter of 2009, a 170 percent growth over the
same period last year. The company benefitted from the increasing demand for
continuous availability and scale-out solutions in both IBM DB2 and Microsoft
SQL Server environments.

During the first half of 2009, xkoto saw dramatic growth both in increased
customer adoption and in the number of companies evaluating GRIDSCALE. The
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently selected GRIDSCALE for DB2 to
provide continuous availability and performance for critical modernization
initiatives at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). GRIDSCALE will
help ensure 24x7 availability for Secure Flight, a behind-the-scenes program
that makes travel safer and easier for millions of Americans. For more
information about Secure Flight, visit
http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/secureflight/.

In addition to the Department of Homeland Security, new customers added in the
first half include Gamesys, Louisiana State University, Filiadata GmbH, Omnigon
Communications LLC, DSV A/S, QVC, Inc., and Intium Services. Several of these
organizations are leaders in their respective industries. For example, Gamesys
is the fastest growing online gaming company in the U.K., while QVC, Inc. is one
of the largest multimedia retailers in the world. These organizations chose
GRIDSCALE to eliminate downtime, improve scalability and dramatically lower the
cost required to manage and maintain business-critical databases. Information
about xkoto customers can be found at
http://www.xkoto.com/resources/casestudies.php.

Factors contributing to this increased interest include the growing need to
eliminate downtime for critical business applications, to increase database
performance without costly hardware upgrades, and to meet stringent disaster
recovery requirements.

xkoto continued to garner industry recognition in the first half of 2009,
including the following:

* GRIDSCALE for SQL Server was named Best of Microsoft TechEd 2009
* xkoto was recognized by Gartner as a "Cool Vendor" in virtualization and IT
operations
* xkoto was named Red Herring 100 finalist
* The company was chosen for the first annual InformationWeek Startup 50 program

* David Patrick, xkoto President and CEO, was named a "CEO of the Year" finalist
by Mass Technology Leadership Council

For organizations using SQL Server, xkoto announced it joined Microsoft`s
Technology Center (MTC) Alliances Program. GRIDSCALE for SQL Server will be
installed globally in 18 centers, enabling MTC staff to evaluate, benchmark and
architect active-active database technology for use with critical applications.

"Initial reception to our SQL Server product has been overwhelmingly positive,
while demand for our DB2 solution continues to grow," said David Patrick,
President and CEO of xkoto. "Bottom line - downtime can no longer be tolerated
and businesses must get the most out of their existing IT infrastructure. We
look forward to growing our business as more organizations turn to GRIDSCALE to
meet these and other critical requirements."

GRIDSCALE is an active-active solution that virtualizes the database
infrastructure. It enables businesses to distribute application load across
multiple instances of commercial databases running on clusters of low-cost
hardware, on mid-range systems, on virtual machines and in the cloud. With
GRIDSCALE, businesses can improve application performance and achieve continuous
availability for business-critical applications. For more information, visit
