Exostar Selected by Burton Group to Join Single Sign-On Interoperability
Demonstration for Cloud Applications
Google, Microsoft, Salesforce.com and Others Will Also Participate in Event
Conducted at Burton Group Catalyst Conference
HERNDON, Va., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Exostar, the leading provider of secure,
multi-enterprise, on-demand collaboration solutions to the aerospace and
defense (A&D) industry, today announced it has been chosen by Burton Group to
take part in an interoperability demonstration that will showcase single
sign-on for cloud-based applications. The event will take place on Wednesday
evening, July 29th, at Burton Group's Catalyst Conference North America 2009
in San Diego, CA.
Interest in the cloud-based application deployment model among businesses of
all sizes is rising because of its upside potential: reduced capital
expenditures on servers and other network infrastructure, lower operating
expenditures thanks in part to cheaper utility bills and the need for a
smaller physical plant footprint, and a streamlined IT organization poised to
address the highest priority activities with a laser focus. Achieving
widespread adoption is dependent upon successfully accounting for robust
security and usability requirements.
"For companies to truly embrace the off-premise application architecture, they
must have complete confidence that only valid individuals with appropriate
permissions can access the application, its functions, and its data at any
point in time," said Vijay Takanti, Exostar's Vice President of Security and
Collaboration Solutions. "Strong identity and access management are key
components of a comprehensive foundation that also must include on-boarding
and provisioning of users. On the flip side, access shouldn't be so
cumbersome as to require users to maintain unique user IDs and passwords or
hardware - or software-based credentials for each application in the cloud.
Single sign-on is critical to enhance the user experience."
Event attendees will take part in scenarios involving two categories of
contributors: identity management providers and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
application providers. Identity management providers will provision new
users, authenticate users requesting access, and facilitate single sign-on
application connectivity via the SAML, WS-Federation, or OpenID
standards-based protocols. SaaS application providers, including Exostar,
Google, Microsoft, and Salesforce.com, communicate seamlessly with the
identity management providers to complete the transaction and enable users to
interact with the application resources to which they are entitled.
"We are very happy to have Exostar participating in the interoperability
demonstration this year. Exostar brings many years of expertise in delivering
SaaS applications to the industry," said Gerry Gebel, Vice President and
Service Director at Burton Group. "Their ForumPass 4 service offering is an
application that meets the high-assurance demands of the marketplace.
Exostar's participation in the demo truly complements and rounds out the
interoperability suite."
Exostar's Takanti added, "We're pleased to take part in the demonstration
because it underscores our vision that with standards-based identity and
access management capabilities that are proven and interoperable, companies
will increasingly look to cloud computing solutions."
