AKRON, Ohio, July 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Three Cleveland-area residents
were chosen to win a year of free electric generation service from FirstEnergy
Solutions Corp. (FES) in the contest now being offered in conjunction with the
FES electric generation offer. FES is the competitive subsidiary of
FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE).

Winners Irene Muro, of Solon; Alan Klonowski, of Independence; and David
McGuire II, of East Cleveland, were among the thousands of residential
customers who were automatically entered into the drawing for free electric
generation service after signing up for the FES discount offer to lock in
guaranteed savings of 10 percent off generation for the rest of 2009 and 5
percent off through 2010. In addition, those taking advantage of the FES
offer are buying from a company with strong ties to the local community
instead of an out-of-state supplier.

To begin receiving the guaranteed 10 percent discount and be automatically
entered into the weekly free electric generation drawings, customers can
enroll with FirstEnergy Solutions online at www.fes.com/save, or call
1-877-524-SAVE (7283). Interested customers should act quickly because less
than one week remains to qualify for the final free generation drawing.

Customers can enter the drawing for free electric generation without having to
sign up for the 10 percent electric generation savings by following the
non-enrollment contest entry instructions found at www.fes.com/save.

FES is the generation supplier for more than 500,000 residential and small
business customers in 50 communities that are part of government aggregation
groups in northern Ohio. FES also is a licensed supplier in Pennsylvania, New
Jersey, Maryland, Michigan and Illinois.

FirstEnergy is a diversified energy company headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Its
subsidiaries and affiliates are involved in the generation, transmission and
