Occam Networks` Flexibility Critical in Sebastian`s Network Upgrade to Build a Mixed Copper/Fiber Network
Sebastian to Implement a Bonded DSL Infrastructure and New Fiber Buildout as Part of Major Network Upgrade SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(Business Wire)-- Occam Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:OCNW) announced today that California-based service provider Sebastian (Kerman, Calif.) has chosen Occam`s BLC 6000 platform as part of its strategy to deploy bonded DSL architecture to significantly increase the bandwidth of its copper network and offer subscribers new advanced features. The company selected Occam`s BLC 6252 ADSL2Plus and BLC 6246 ADSL2Plus with T1 capabilities to implement Triple Play and wholesale broadband services. These products enable Sebastian to deploy ADSL2Plus and POTS service from a single platform, providing a natural transition to higher performance broadband without the need of a costly infrastructure overhaul. In addition, Sebastian also plans to use Occam to build out all fiber networks to greenfield subdivisions. "Having a platform capable of supporting both single and bonded copper pairs from one cabinet enables us the flexibility to manage customer bandwidth requirements," said Mitch Drake, Vice President of Sebastian. "Occam`s easy to use platform allows us the ability to efficiently manage our networks and eliminate unnecessary cost providing us a huge advantage when migrating our customers to fiber." Sebastian operates more than 10,000 access lines, serving both businesses and residences. A full menu of communications services is available from Sebastian, including voice and wholesale broadband services such as high speed internet and IPTV. Occam Networks enables rural telcos to extend the life of their copper infrastructures by implementing bonded DSL, which provides significantly faster bandwidth at a fraction of the cost of building out a fiber network. Because service providers are moving to FTTP architectures at different rates, copper remains an important access technology for many. An increasing number of providers are turning to Bonded DSL architectures to provide bandwidth that can handle HD video on demand and gaming, within limited capex budgets. In addition, service providers are increasingly mixing copper and fiber infrastructure and require access equipment that enables engineers to manage the network simply and efficiently. "Today`s slower economy is pushing service providers to look for cost-effective alternatives to address subscriber need for advanced broadband services. As such, Sebastian was eager to increase bandwidth speeds throughout its existing copper network without a major rebuild," said Juan Vela, Director of Solutions Marketing and Strategy, Occam Networks. "Occam`s Bonded DSL solutions address these challenges by delivering scalable solutions that meet service providers` growing bandwidth demands."
