Polatis Delivers 2000n All-Optical Switch for Telecom and Data Center Networks
Network-grade switch boasts fastest switching times for critical network functions; and extremely low power consumption for eco-friendly deployments ANDOVER, Mass. and CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom--(Business Wire)-- Polatis, Inc. the performance leader in all-optical switch technology, today announced the availability of its new 2000n all-optical switch for telecom and data center networks, part of the recently announced Series 2000 line of products. The 2000n is a non-blocking 80x80 all-optical matrix switch that supports all transmission formats including DWDM traffic at 10/40/100 Gbps speeds and is remotely managed via a Web interface with support for SNMP and TL1. It is built to Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) specifications and meets the highest performance and reliability standards. The Polatis 2000n can be reconfigured in 10 ms and has industry-leading low loss that doesn`t compromise system performance budgets. It is designed to meet a Verizon Telecommunications Equipment Energy Efficiency Rating (TEEER) of more than 10, or at least 1,000 times more energy efficient than the industry average, enabling network operators to significantly reduce their carbon footprints. "The increasing volume and diversity of data traffic is predicating the need for a highly reliable, more robust and intelligent transport network," said Nick Parsons, vice president of engineering at Polatis. "The 2000n has the right mix of carrier-grade features and high performance characteristics that can greatly enhance the management of agile networks and improve efficiency at a lower cost." The Polatis 2000n provides multiple cost-saving and revenue-generating applications in a compact and energy-efficient form factor: Automatic Protection Switching enables automated and swift recovery from network failures; Enhanced Network Monitoring and Test provides remote monitor and test of fiber networks for customer SLA`s and fault detection; Intelligent Fiber Distribution Management automates traffic switching, service provisioning and upgrades; Wavelength Management enables the delivery of colorless/directionless wavelength services without the need for ROADMs or additional transponders. "Providing more services on a system is something that service providers and data center operators are looking for in their optical investments," said Deb Mielke, managing director at Treillage Network Strategies, a networking and communications consultancy. "Simplifying network operations and increasing resource utilization, while significantly reducing energy consumption, is an attractive proposition."
