Shaw's Update on Union Negotiation

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
Shaw's contract with UFCW Local 791 is scheduled to expire at
12:01 am on August 3, 2008. Meanwhile, Shaw's is working diligently to
reach a new agreement.

   Currently, Shaw's has proposed overall INCREASES to the total wage
package and company contributions towards healthcare benefits. In
addition, the company has proposed to increase contributions to 401k
in lieu of additional contributions to the defined benefit plan.
Shaw's currently offers one the highest industry wage packages in the
area while providing outstanding benefits.

   The company's goal during this negotiation is to obtain a contract
that balances the needs of its associates with the needs of its
customers, while keeping in mind today's highly competitive
marketplace.
