New ELISA offers a rapid and easy to use method for detecting levels of
Tamm-Horsfall in urine samples
ST PAUL, Minn.--(Business Wire)--
MD Biosciences announces the recent launch of its new Tamm-Horsfall (THP,
Uromodulin) ELISA. To date, very few manufactured ELISAs are commercially
available for the measurement of THP, causing researchers to spend extra time
optimizing and manufacturing their own ELISAs. The MD Biosciences Tamm-Horsfall
ELISA kit has been optimized during development to provide precise and
reproducible results. Selection of antibody pairs, careful control of microplate
coating, formulation of reagents and protocol design along with stringent
quality control procedures provides a completed ELISA kit that is a rapid and
easy to use alternative to the do-it-yourself methods.

 Tamm-Horsfall ELISA Specifications:
 Range of Assay: 9.375 - 150 ng/mL
 Sensitivity: <5.50 ng/mL

Cross-Reactivity: Human and canine urine samples

Tamm-Horsfall protein is the most abundant protein found in the urine of
mammals. While the specific function of THP is unknown, it appears to have a
role in the regulation of salt and water excretion by the kidney. Soluble THP
has been found to help protect against urinary tract infections of E. coli and
P. mirabilis by inhibiting the binding of the bacteria to the epithelial cells
of the urinary tract. In addition, it has been suggested that THP may help
prevent renal stone formation. Defects in THP are associated with human diseases
such as familial juvenile hyperuricemic nephropathy (FJHN) and medullary cystic
kidney disease (MCKD2).
