Azalea Networks Selected to Support 'Wireless Beijing' Wireless Mesh Network
to be Used During 2008 Olympic Games
China service provider CECT-Chinacomm and Beijing government leverage wireless
mesh expertise of Azalea Networks to support first 'Wireless Broadband
Olympics'
MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Azalea Networks, a leading
innovator in wireless mesh broadband equipment and technology, today announced
that it was selected by CECT-Chinacomm as the primary equipment supplier for
the "Wireless Beijing" project. Phase one of this project, consisting of 800
to 1000 wireless mesh routers supplied and supported by Azalea, will provide
wireless broadband access over 30 miles (50 kilometers) in Beijing's central
business district, financial street and Olympics areas.
When completed, "Wireless Beijing" will enhance the communication service
level in and around Olympics venues and tourist areas alike. With the benefit
of wireless broadband technology, reporters will have instant, reliable access
to the network to send stories to their home offices. Visitors will have
Internet access to share their experiences as they happen. Community service
communications will benefit as well, including business relations, and
emergency services such as police, firefighters, medical and other public
services.
The "Wireless Beijing" project was organized by CECT-Chinacomm
Communications Co. Ltd and is receiving support from the Beijing municipal
government. Mr. Ping Qiu, the president of CECT-Chinacomm Communications,
