Fujitsu Named as One of the Green 15 by IDG's InfoWorld Magazine
SUNNYVALE, CA, May 07 (MARKET WIRE) --
Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation announced today that IDG's InfoWorld
Magazine,
the leading integrated media brand for IT Decision Makers, has selected Fujitsu
for InfoWorld's Green 15 Awards for 2008. InfoWorld's first-ever Green 15
special feature was published April 22 on Infoworld.com.
Companies around the world have embraced green technology to drive
projectsand develop products aimed at boosting energy efficiency, trimming
waste, and
reducing or eliminating the use and production of harmful substances. The
InfoWorld
Green 15 awards recognize the 15 most innovative IT initiatives that fall
under this umbrella of sustainability.
"This award from InfoWorld is further validation of our deep commitment to
environmental responsibility and to taking concrete steps to reduce our
carbon footprint, eliminate lead and other harmful wastes from our supply chain
and products, and implement broad conservation, recycling and reuse programs on
our campus," said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing for
Fujitsu Computer Systems. "We are proud of the environmental leadership Fujitsu
has
shown for more than a decade, and we have clearly demonstrated that investing in
technologies and programs that are good for the environment is also smart for
our business."
In 2007, Fujitsu installed a hydrogen fuel cell on its Sunnyvale campus. The
fuel
cell provides 50 percent of the power needed to cool the campus data center and
labs, reducing the amount of fossil fuel burned to maintain operations and
easing
pressure on the local power grid. Fujitsu is the first Silicon Valley-based
company to install its own hydrogen power plant.
The Fujitsu Environmental Program develops employee, facility, and
manufacturing-based environmental programs. Since 1996, Fujitsu has published
regular reports detailing the programs and results of its environmental
protection activities. Fujitsu has made the Dow Jones Sustainability World
Index eight years in a row, and the FTSE4Good Index Series five years in a row.
By the end of fiscal 2009, all Fujitsu business units will increase the number
of
Super Green Products (those with the most advanced, environmentally friendly
characteristics) by at least 20 percent.
"Many organizations worldwide are struggling with high energy costs, as well
as limited space and power to meet their computing needs," said Ted Samson,
senior analyst, InfoWorld. "They're also feeling pressure from investors,
legislators, customers, and from within to cut waste, reduce their carbon
footprint, and be better environmental stewards. The InfoWorld Green 15 winners
clearly demonstrate how sustainable technology initiatives can be complementary
--
even instrumental -- to achieving business goals."
