Unprecedented Access to Clinical Information Enhances Clinical
Productivity and Overall Quality of Care
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa--(Business Wire)--MediNotes Corporation, the leading provider of electronic medical
record (EMR) systems for small to mid-sized medical practices, today
announced the general availability of MediNotes e 5.2. This
high-performance, ambulatory electronic medical record system is built
upon an intuitive interface with enterprise-class features such as
automated workflow, internal messaging, patient tracking, health
maintenance, ad-hoc reporting and role-based security. With this new
upgrade, MediNotes continues its track record of delivering pioneering
software designed to make a difference at the point of care.

Key enhancements to MediNotes e 5.2 include:

-- Improved Demographics - Provides advance directives (living
will, durable power of attorney, do not resuscitate and
refuses blood transfusions), as well as the ability to make
comments about advance directives. Insurance information now
transfers via HL7 from PMS into MediNotes e.

-- Prescriptions - Offers expanded functionality to the
award-winning Rcopia from DrFirst, the nation's leading
electronic prescribing system. Together with DrFirst, the
enhanced MediNotes eRx module streamlines the prescribing and
refill workflow. The prescriptions that are preferred by
formularies are now clearly displayed and can help eliminate
        non-formulary expenses for patients.

-- Security Manager - Manages access, passwords, groups and users
as part of MediNotes e standard software.

-- MediNotes Report - Generates reports on all types of
        information found in MediNotes e.

-- Multimedia - Supplies comments and forwarding for review,
along with improved movement of documents between the document
        server and the database.

According to a recent survey by the American Academy of Family
Physicians (AAFP), approximately half of family physicians are either
implementing or have already implemented electronic health records
(EHR) into their practice. This is a significant increase from four
years ago when the AAFP first began tracking EHR use among its
members: In 2003, only 10 percent to 15 percent of AAFP members had
adopted EHRs, compared to 37 percent this year (2007), reports
Healthcare IT News. Ninety-nine percent of those who are in the
process of implementing or planning to purchase an EHR system said
they intend to use it for managing patient medications and issues, in
addition to accessing patient health summaries.

"This year, spending on electronic medical records is predicted to
significantly increase," said Donald G. Schoen, CEO and president of
MediNotes. "The growing popularity of EMRs in physician offices
reflects an ongoing need for the continuing evolution of EMR
solutions. With this new MediNotes system release, we have focused
strongly on improving physician access to clinical information to save
them valuable time and enhance the care delivery process."

MediNotes e interface components display patient, practice,
document management, messaging and workflows in personalized and
easily accessible views. Using tabs, providers can quickly toggle
between patients or tasks without the need to navigate to a separate
area of the program.
